Delta state Commissioner of Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has said that public servants in the state must ensure that unnecessary bottlenecks or delays in rendering service to the public were eliminated as part of a deliberate partnership between civil servants and political office holders to ensure that the key objectives of the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori were achieved.
Dr. Osuoza made the remarks Monday when the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, and Supervisor of the office of SERVICOM and Labour Relations, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, paid a working visit to the State’s Ministry of Information.
The Commissioner stated that SERVICOM as a concept had been a household name that symbolized the social contract between the government and citizens, stressing that the Ministry of Information would partner with the Senior Policy Adviser to propagate the message of effective, timely, fair and honest service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state government.
While assuring that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was fully in support of a rebranded public service that would eliminate deliberate delays in service delivery by public servants in the state, Osuoza advised the Senior Policy Adviser to put in place appropriate mechanisms for the timely resolution of complaints arising from service failures in MDAs.
Earlier, the Fn. Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Lucky Omokri, JP, listed the functions of the Ministry to include dissemination of information about the policies and programmes of the state government through the state-owned media outlets; managing a feedback mechanism with officers deployed to the twenty-five local government areas of the state, as well as printing of government gazettes, among other information management functions.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon stated that the SERVICOM team was at the Ministry of Information as part of its extended collaborative visits to MDAs with a view to re-invigorating the SERVICOM units in the MDAs, as well as re-awakening the need for improved, honest fair, timely and effective service delivery by public servants to the people of Delta State.
Solomon noted that the MORE agenda of Governor Oborevwori would manifest quickly through the timely, honest, fair and effective service delivery to the public.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Service Compact document to the commissioner for Information.
