Delta NGOs urge mass participation in NIN registration

The Forum of Delta State Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) has called on residents of Delta State to actively participate in the ongoing National Identification registration being conducted by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), describing the exercise as vital to social inclusion and access to essential services.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Deacon Okezi Odugala, and Secretary, Mr. Ekenem Omosor, the Forum said possession of a National Identification Number (NIN) is now a prerequisite for accessing banking, telecommunications, healthcare, education, social protection programmes and other government interventions.

The group noted that universal NIN registration would strengthen citizens’ participation in national development and improve access to economic and social opportunities across Delta State .

As part of its civic engagement mandate, the Forum said it is intensifying mobilization and advocacy across the state’s 25 local government areas, working with community leaders, youth groups, women associations, persons with disabilities, faith-based organisations and traditional institutions to ensure broad participation.

The Forum specifically urged parents and guardians to register their children, encouraged youths and first-time applicants to visit designated enrolment centres, and called on vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations to engage community mobilisers for support. It also appealed to public and private sector stakeholders to back awareness campaigns and provide platforms for sensitisation.

Commending NIMC for expanding enrolment centres, the Forum encouraged sustained collaboration with civil society to improve service delivery, reduce waiting times and address logistical challenges.

According to the statement, widespread registration would enhance national security, improve planning and resource allocation, and promote inclusive governance.

The Forum concluded by urging all residents to prioritise their NIN registration and encourage others to do the same, stressing that collective action is key to building a more inclusive and empowered society.
