Delta North: Historic gathering at Ochei’s residence, APC gains strength as Senator Nwoko joins fold in Aniocha North

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aniocha North held a historic gathering at the residence of Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei in Onicha-Olona on Sunday, February 23, to officially receive Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, into the party at the local government level. The atmosphere was electrifying as party leaders, faithful, and supporters turned out in large numbers to welcome a man whose commitment to the progress of Anioma people is unquestionable.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Senator Ned Nwoko left no room for doubt about his decision to join the APC, making it clear that it was not about political rhetoric but about real action for his people. He expressed his happiness at being among his people, emphasizing that Aniocha is his home.

“I am very happy to be in the midst of my brothers and sisters today. Today is very significant because this is my home. Aniocha is my home. As we embark on this journey together, it is not enough for me to be making political statements. I don’t like political statements. I’m not your average politician. I say it the way it is,” he said.

He emphasized that his move to APC was guided by deep consultations and strong assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself. He said that he would never have joined the APC if he had not been convinced that the President was fully committed to the creation of Anioma State.

Senator Nwoko recalled his engagements with Delta State leaders, including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the current governor who outrightly opposed the creation of Anioma State, arguing that he did not want Delta divided.

He reminded the people that Delta State itself was once part of Bendel before it was carved out, and without that, there would be no Asaba as a state capital or the political opportunities many Delta leaders have enjoyed.

He also frowned at the hypocrisy of some political leaders in Delta who privately support Anioma State but are afraid to speak up.

“Many Delta commissioners, advisers, local government chairmen, and PDP executives support Anioma State. When they talk to me privately, they say, ‘Carry go, we like what you are doing.’ But when it’s time to speak publicly, they either keep quiet or say something else. That is when I realized that poverty is not a good thing—people cannot even speak for their people because they are worried about their political survival.

“That was when I knew I had to step up my game. I met with the President, who then gave me the assurance that Anioma is realistic and will be done,” he assured the people.

While welcoming Senator Nwoko to the party, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei praised his ability to build bridges across party lines and described his entry into APC as a major boost for the party in Delta North. He assured the gathering that with Senator Nwoko in the party, the people of the senatorial district would experience dynamic representation.

This momentous gathering followed a similar event at the APC Delta North senatorial meeting, at the residence of Hon. Doris Uboh, where Senator Ned Nwoko was officially received into the party at the senatorial level by key party stakeholders, led by the State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, in Agbor.
