The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its sustained crackdown on crime, arresting a woman who sold her two-month-old baby, dismantling a fake alcoholic drinks operation, and apprehending a suspected drug dealer with large quantities of illicit substances.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 19, 2025, the Command said the arrest of the child traffickers followed a staged report of robbery at the Ekpan Police Division.
According to the police, one Rita Ughale of Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Area had reported on December 15 that her two-month-old baby was snatched during a robbery while she was commuting in a tricycle. Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, mobilised operatives for a search and rescue operation.
However, during investigation, inconsistencies in her account raised suspicion, leading to further interrogation. The woman eventually confessed that the robbery story was false and revealed that she had sold the baby for ₦1.5 million to a couple identified as Osas Omijie, 39, and Judith Omijie, 30.
Police operatives arrested the suspects and successfully rescued the infant, who has been confirmed safe. All suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices for prosecution.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, Ughelli Surveillance Team, arrested a 67-year-old woman, Lydia Osanebi, for allegedly producing and distributing fake alcoholic drinks.

The arrest followed the execution of a search warrant on December 14 at her residence in Otor-Edor, Ughelli, where officers recovered large quantities of dangerous chemicals suspected to include methanol, formalin and cochineal, as well as empty bottles, seals, stickers and packaging materials of various dry gin brands. Over 60 litres of suspected adulterated dry gin were also seized.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to producing and repackaging adulterated dry gin using recycled original bottles for over 20 years. Police warned that methanol, one of the substances recovered, is highly toxic and capable of causing severe health complications, including blindness and death. Investigation is ongoing to determine the distribution network and identify other collaborators.
Meanwhile, operatives of the CP–Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, also arrested a suspected drug dealer in Sapele. The suspect, identified as Felix Africa, 44, was apprehended on December 18 during a raid at his residence in the Gana area of the town.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of eight bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the exhibits and confessed to dealing in illicit drugs.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding public health and ensuring the welfare of residents. The police urged members of the public to shun illegal activities, avoid unregulated products, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the Command Control Room on 0803 668 4974.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, Delta State Command, Asaba.
