Delta Police boss, Ali seeks public partnership against crime, frowns at prevalence of cultism, kidnapping

CP Ari Mohammed Ali, Delta State Police boss.

The Delta State Police Command has called on members of the public to fully collaborate with police in the fight against crime and criminal elements in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Mohammed Ali made the call today while interacting with journalists under the aegis of the Indigenous correspondent Chapel of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

While noting that crime fighting is a collaborative effort between members of the public and the police, CP Ali said crime fighting is not a one man business meant only for the police.

He said: “The task of policing has become not just the job of policemen, it calls for a collaborative, symbiotic and synergy between the police and the public.”

While also pointing out that every geopolitical area has a type of crime unique to it, CP Ali identified kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and murder as the crimes prevalent in the state.
Although the Commissioner of Police crime rate in Delta has reduced relatively because the Command is not resting on its oars, but CP Ali hinted that of it all, kidnapping and cultism are the most prevalent.

“Four days ago, we arrested about 50 men and women who were to be initiated into cult; we arrested them with about 10 vehicles,” Ali said.

He decried the penchant of young people taking to cultism, which has no value, but just the urge for supremacy that results in loss of lives in the process. “Youths must brace up and work hard to succeed in life,” he cautioned.

He called on journalists covering events and happenings in the grassroots to assist in carrying out advocacy reportage. “I am happy meeting you because I am dealing with journalists covering communities in the grassroots.”

According to him, most of the criminals are from the grassroots, so partnering with community based journalists is a good thing. “The task of policing has now come to the point where it is not just the job of policemen alone,” CP Ali said, but urge members of the public to partner with police in easing out crime in the state.
