Delta State Government has pledged its support to the Nigerian Police in the collective effort to combat Insecurity in the State, even as the government has expressed concern over the emerging spate of kidnappings which is gradually becoming rife across the State.
This pledge was made by Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza when he played host to the Police Public Relations Office, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, who paid an inaugural courtesy visit to the Information Commissioner, in his office at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex, Asaba, Delta State.
Dr. Osuoza, while thanking the Delta PPRO for the auspicious visit, also decried the viral trend of youths and teenagers flaunting stupendous wealth and extravagance without any legal or verifiable sources of income and how most parents even celebrate the lavishness of such wealthy and ostentatious display by their kids. He used the opportunity to admonish parents to pay particular attention to the upbringing of their children and wards, noting that the larger society would benefit greatly if children were given the proper indoctrination and had the right values inculcated in them.
The Delta Information Commissioner equally allayed the Delta PPRO’s displeasure with the penchant of government media aides to post unverified information in the social media, assuring him that a structured arrangement has now been put in place to regulate and moderate the activities of all media aides in the social media space.
He further urged the Delta Police Command to intensify its efforts at stemming the emerging reports of alleged kidnappings in the State which has not only made most citizens to be highly conscious of their safety and security but was recently brought to the fore with the abduction of Hon. Joan Onyemaechi (popular called Ada Anioma), who, he noted happily, has since regained her freedom from her captors, even as he called on the police to be more regular with its interactions and information dissemination agenda with the media to avoid misrepresentations of sensitive situations that require prompt clarifications from the police.
Dr. Osuoza, who noted that Delta was not in a dire security situation as robust movements and business were still thriving and progressing unhindered, then pledged the support of the Delta State Government to the police and all security agencies, in the collective effort to combat crime in the State, which is in line with the Enhanced Peace and Security component of the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, so that social and economic life will thrive and investors will embrace Delta State as a favoured investment destination.
Earlier, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, in his comments, congratulated Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza on his appointment as the State Commissioner for Information, noting that the Ministry of Information was one of his catchment areas in his capacity as the image maker of the Police in the State.
He then raised the disturbing matter of unverified reports published by journalists and government media aides, which are potentially damaging to the image and reputation of the State, even as he expressed disgust over the wanton, indiscriminate displays of wealth by youths with no certified legitimate means of livelihood, as well as the alarming increase of homosexual activities amongst youths in the State, which he suggested may be addressed by the enactment of some kind of legislation to contain the situation .
SP Edafe then assured the Delta Information Commissioner of a more robust synergy and partnership with the Ministry in the collective effort to keep Delta safe and secure for all Deltans.
Those who accompanied Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command, Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe on the visit were: Assistant Superintendent of Police, Edna Bassey, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Emeka Nwanze, Sargeant Innocent Egbu and Corporal Ruth Edoghiame.
