Former House of Representatives member, Hon (Engr) Doris O. Uboh (MNSE), has promised to develop sports in Ika Federal Constituency, and declared also that Nigerian women must always be celebrated.
She stated this in reaction to the feats attained by Nigerian Women in recent times, especially with the recent triumphs of Nigerian sportswomen in the international scene.
In the statement made in Abuja, Doris Uboh said: ” It really feels good to be a Nigerian woman at this time because of the amazing exploits being recorded by Nigerian female athletes in diverse areas of sports.
” In the middle of July, the country was treated to the pleasure of globally renowned Nigerian Female Footballer Asisat Oshoala, receiving the prestigious CAF Female Player of the Year Award for a record 5th time, eclipsing the record for most Africa’s Best Player Titles wins, either by a man or woman which was also held by a Nigerian Female footballer, Perpetua Nkwocha who had won it four times in her career.
I, therefore, heartily congratulate Miss Asisat Oshoala on this great and epoch breaking feat and celebrate her focus, determination and expertise in her craft”.
The statement further celebrates Miss Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume, who won big at the World Athletics Championships, yesterday.
Hon. Uboh, the 2023 APC candidate for Ika Federal Constituency said: “I also extend hearty cheers and join in celebrating the newly crowned female 100 metres hurdles champion of the world, Miss Tobi Amusan, on her illustrious feat, achieved in the early hours of Monday, 26th July, 2022, by winning the gold medal, to become the first ever Nigerian Gold Medalist and World Record Holder in the history of the World Athletics Championship.
It is simply amazing”.
“I further recognize my Delta sister and tenacious jumper of international repute, Miss Ese Brume on her Silver Medal winning feat in the long jump category of the WCA.
Miss Brume has always been a regular medalist at international events and her Silver Winning feat is a worthy upgrade and appreciation of her genuine efforts”.
Doris Uboh, an Ekuku-Agbor born and New York trained electrical engineer further made positive mention of the Nigerian Super Falcons and relay quartet for their noble feats at their respective competitions held in July 2022. She also emphasized the need for society and the world to allow these feats and others attained by Nigerian women at different spheres to change the perception of women, as they should be seen as inspiring, challenging and worthy of celebration every day.
“The Nigerian 4×100 meters women’s relay team also performed commendably, after setting a new African Record at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the United States of America.
“The quartet of Joy Udo-Gabriel, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha deserve commendation for clocking 42.22 seconds in the final, to break the 30-year-old African Record.
“Similarly, the Nigerian Super Falcons must also be celebrated for their fourth place finish at the just concluded AWFCON, in Morocco, wherein amongst other things, they generated financial returns for the country and qualifies for the Women’s World Cup later this year.
“I am greatly inspired and therefore make a solemn vow to always work towards developing the sporting capacities of women and young girls and youths in our society, beginning from Ika Federal Constituency where I seek to represent.
“Priority must now be given to developing the innate abilities of the youth and girl-child in the area of sports.
“Sports Development is a part of the New Possibilities being envisaged for Ika Federal Constituency Under my Representation.
” The wins by these sportswomen, as well as others by Nigerian Women in diverse fields of endeavour are a reminder that women can do just as good, and the best approach is to help the development of individual talents and abilities, because this potential hold immeasurable benefits”.
