DTSG green-lights N42 billion for critical infrastructure projects

In a major push to upgrade state-wide infrastructure, the Delta State Executive Council has approved a comprehensive N42 billion package targeting road networks, erosion control, and enhanced electricity supply.

The approvals, announced by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, follow an Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Aniagwu stated the projects align with the administration’s commitment to accelerating development and improving living standards for residents.

Key Road Projects and Revisions

A significant portion of the funding is allocated to vital road corridors. Major works approved include:

· The reconstruction of Phase Two of the Old Lagos–Asaba Road (Obior to Ubulu-Uku axis).
· Construction of the Ute-Ogbeje to Ebuenor and Ani-Nwachokor roads in Ika North East.
· Construction of internal roads in Etua-Etiti and Etua-Oliogo, Ndokwa West.

The Council also approved upward cost revisions for some existing projects, including the Ute-Ogbeje to Otolokpo road, citing changes in market prices and previous delays due to weather and funding.

Combating Erosion and Flooding

To protect key infrastructure and communities, the council sanctioned critical environmental projects:

· Erosion control measures around the Asaba International Airport.
· Flood control work along Dennis Osadebay Way, from the traffic light to Abraka Road, an area severely impacted by erosion.

Boosting Energy Supply for Growth

In the energy sector, approvals were granted to improve power reliability in Udu and adjoining communities. Interventions include replacing a broken-down 15MVA transformer, installing new 300KVA transformers, and rehabilitating substations.

“These interventions are deliberate efforts by the Oborevwori administration to boost energy supply, support economic activities, and improve living conditions,” Aniagwu said.

Commitment to Sustained Development

The commissioner also noted that Governor Oborevwori has signed the N1.7 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, with over 70% earmarked for capital expenditure focused on infrastructure.

He assured that despite the approaching election season, the administration remains focused on development, stressing that all projects will undergo due procurement processes before award and execution.

Aniagwu expressed confidence that the newly approved projects will significantly advance Delta State’s development, thanking residents and stakeholders for their continued support.
