Enugu Senator Okey Ezea dies after brief illness in Abuja

Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has died. He reportedly passed on in the early hours of Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in Abuja after a brief illness.

News of his death was confirmed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central), who announced the development in an emotional tribute posted on Facebook.

Describing Ezea as “a good man, wise and gentle,” Akpoti-Uduaghan recounted the quiet but significant support he offered her during some of her most challenging moments in the Senate.

“Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments and I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote. “Enugu North Senatorial District, Kogi Central honours your Senator and mourns with you.”

Ezea, a member of the Labour Party, remained the party’s only Senator from Enugu State who had not defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). All other Enugu senators, along with several lawmakers from both the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have since crossed over to the ruling party.

His passing leaves a major vacuum in Enugu North politics and in the Labour Party’s presence in the upper chamber.
