The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a blistering condemnation of Tuesday’s massacre at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, declaring that the brutal killing of worshippers and the abduction of others, including the pastor, is yet another proof that the Tinubu administration has “lost control” of Nigeria’s security situation.
In a fiery statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the attack, which came barely hours after school officials were murdered and students kidnapped in Kebbi State, paints a horrifying picture of a country now at the mercy of gunmen who “feel emboldened by government’s failure to act decisively.”
“This tragedy is another painful reminder of the pervasive insecurity that has taken root across the country,” the ADC said, warning that the pattern of violence is beginning to validate fears of a spreading “Christian genocide”; a narrative the party initially dismissed but now fears may be becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy due to what it described as the government’s refusal to confront reality.
The party reserved some of its sharpest criticism for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who recently claimed that only 177 Christians had been killed in five years. The ADC described the remark as “unfortunate, offensive, and dangerously revealing of the government’s mindset.”
“Deaths cannot be reduced to numbers,” the party declared. “One poor old woman cut down by bullets while she prays is enough. Yet government officials are engaged in a race-to-the-bottom argument over which religious group has more corpses.”
The ADC accused the Tinubu administration of adopting a defensive posture instead of confronting the scale of the crisis, noting that its attempts to downplay the violence are fueling national grief and deepening distrust.
“Under this Tinubu administration, Nigeria is fast turning into a killing field, and the President does not appear to recognise that his most important job is to protect life,” the statement read.
The party warned that Nigerians are being left to bleed while the government responds with “excuses, denial, and dangerous rhetoric.”
Calling for urgent action, the ADC urged the Federal Government to halt what it described as a descent into anarchy before the nation is “consumed.”
“Nigerians deserve protection, not platitudes. Our houses of worship must be safe, our communities must be safe, our country must be safe,” the party insisted.
