The Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, Obi Kelvin Ezeyinli has promised to continue the pace of development across the length and breadth of the council without favouring a zone to the detriment of others.
The Chairman who made the commitment while speaking on Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) Mirror Platform’ during the Chapel’s Monthly Congress held at its Secretariat on Friday, November 24th, 2023, assured the good people of Oshimili South that the development plan of his administration would cut across the entire council and all spheres of life.
Represented by the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Hon. Hon Brendan Iyeh, with whom was Barr (Mrs) Ndidi Nwulu, head of Department, Legal, the Chairman reassured of the Council’s unrelenting support to the Chapel and NUJ in general in realizing their goals and aspiration.
He said: “The Council has always operated an open door policy and is proud to say it has a synergy with journalists in the State Capital in ensuring the capturing and reporting of accurate and up to date activities of the strides and achievements of its administration”.
Reeling out his administration’s achievements so far Ezeyinli, said in the year under review, his administration “set up seasoned and reputable personalities as members of the economic team and advisory body Committee.
He continued: “Construction of an ultra modern legislative complex with state of the art facilities commissioned by His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, former governor of the state.
“Renovation of the executive complex with sophisticated furnishings and appliances and computerization of the local government Secretariat.
“Installation of close circuit television within the executive complex with plans to extend to the entire Secretariat and purchase of a 200KVA standby generator to provide uninterrupted power supply to the Secretariat.
“Harmonious working relationship with the legislative/management staff that resulted in a yearly early passage of the budgets.
“Collaboration with security personnels by ensuring consistency of the monthly security meeting with all stakeholders in the local government and the provision of the basis needs for vigilante groups.
“Partnering with the private sector in a PPP arrangement to improve the infrastructural development of the local government council’s land by revamping/reconstructing the abandoned staff quarters into a modern housing apartments on behalf of the council.
“Introduction of an automated system for local government identification process and revenue collection for the council and engagement of over 240 youths as environmental marshalls to enforce compliance to ensuring a clean and safe environment.
“The establishment of a mobile environment court to prosecute offenders and partnering with Ecobank Nigeria PLC to empower female petty traders at 0% interest rate.
“Restoration of power at the Ogbeogonogo modern market by the refurbishment of the transformer and offsetting 50% of the outstanding electricity bill.
“Provision of continuous welfare and Christmas packages to staff and the electorate and continuous participation in the sponsorship of the annual ALGON Sports festival and winning the 2022/2023 trophy.
“Youth employment for revenue collection on behalf of council (for Oshimili Youth Summit and empowerment of youths, widows, indigents and the less privilege with cash and food items.
“Partnering with renowned authors to provide and distribute books on the eradication of cultism to both primary and secondary school students in the local government area and offsetting over 60% of outstanding debts owed contractors by precious administration and providing Palliatives for flood victims.
“Transmission of executive bills to the legislative house on the amendment of the revenue bye-law and a bill to eradicate scavenging and renovation of the revenue court and continuous grading of streets in the local government area
“PPP arrangement to construct burnt old Ogbeogonogo market to a modern shopping complex and reconstruction/landscapping and provision of solar light/furnishing of Ogwa Ukwu Ahaba.
“Ongoing construction of ultra modern event center at Oko Amakom and the reconstruction of a culvert/mini bridge between Oko Ogbele and Oko Anala”.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Kenneth Orusi, appreciated the council chairman for his developmental projects across the council especially Asaba, which doubles as the State capital.
He commended the chairman for operating an open door policy and always opening his doors for the chapel anytime it comes knocking.
The Chairman used the medium to inform Hon. Ezeyinli, of its one year anniversary and Press Week coming up March 2024.
