The Federal Government has unveiled a new list of 15 individuals and companies accused of financing terrorism, in what officials describe as one of the most far-reaching actions yet in the 2024 counter-terrorism drive.
The list, released after an extensive multi-agency security review, identifies nine persons and six business entities allegedly linked to financial, logistical, or material support for extremist groups operating within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Those named include: Tukur Mamu, Yusuf Ghazali, Muhammad Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, Sallamudeen Hassan, Adamu Ishak, Hassana-Oyiza Isah, Abdulkareem Musa and Umar Abdullahi.
Also listed are several companies, many operating as Bureau De Change outfits or general trading firms alleged to have channelled funds or services to terror networks. They are: West & East Africa General Trading Company Limited; Settings Bureau De Change Ltd; Side General Enterprises; Desert Exchange Ventures Ltd; Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited; and Alfa Exchange BDC.
Security officials involved in the investigation said the announcement followed months of intelligence tracking, including monitoring of suspicious cash movements, cross-border transactions, communication patterns and links to international networks.
A senior security officer said the goal is to “cut off the oxygen supply” sustaining extremist cells.
According to authorities, the move is part of a broader national strategy to tighten financial regulations, strengthen oversight of high-risk money-changing operations, and reinforce ongoing military operations in terrorism-prone areas.
The government hinted that this is only the first phase of a wider sanctions process, with more names under review and likely to be added in the coming months.
Officials stressed that the action goes beyond publication of the list, as relevant agencies are expected to impose restrictions, freeze accounts where necessary, and intensify monitoring of any further transactions tied to the identified individuals and firms.
