Fresh push for better Julius Berger deal for Delta: Oborevwori heads to Germany

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is taking Delta’s infrastructure drive global — this time to Germany. The Governor will depart on Tuesday for a high-level working visit to Julius Berger’s headquarters in what officials describe as a strategic mission to deepen technical collaboration and secure better terms for ongoing and new projects in the state.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who announced the trip at a media briefing in Asaba, said the Governor will be accompanied by himself and the Technical Assistant to the Governor. The visit, he stressed, is “strictly business”, not tourism.

“This is about getting more value for Delta. His Excellency is known for his negotiation skills, and this visit will help us secure stronger deals and concessions that directly impact our infrastructure goals,” Aniagwu said, flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika.

According to Aniagwu, Oborevwori’s mission in Germany aligns with his administration’s determination to deliver big-ticket projects without compromising quality or transparency.

He recalled that a previous foreign engagement, the Governor’s trip to China, opened doors for major infrastructure investments, including the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli, both now reshaping Delta’s urban landscape.

The Commissioner also dropped hints about the 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion, which he said would focus heavily on capital projects, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare.

“We’ve approved the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, and ministries are now fine-tuning their proposals before the budget hits the Executive Council table,” he disclosed.

Aniagwu added that the Governor has directed that all upcoming empowerment programmes, set to begin next month, must be transparent, inclusive, and spread evenly across the 25 local government areas. The initiative, he said, would be coordinated by relevant ministries and agencies to promote genuine empowerment and sustainable livelihoods.

He also revealed that several groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects, including the much-anticipated Otovwodo Junction flyover, will hold in the coming weeks — a signal that Oborevwori’s government is keeping its foot firmly on the development pedal.

“We are not slowing down because of politics. Governance must continue. Contractors have been told to keep working round the clock to deliver projects on schedule,” Aniagwu asserted.

From all indications, Oborevwori’s Germany trip is less about diplomacy and more about deals — real deals that could shape Delta’s infrastructure future for years to come.
