Members of the Artisans’ Association of Delta State have been told to look critically into realistic areas of possible assistance that will benefit their members more while making demands from the government.
The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon gave the advice today, Thursday, June 11, 2020 while hosting the leadership of the various groups of artisans in the conference room of his office.
The association led by its Delta State Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Abalum, the umbrella union covering about 36 groups of artisans across the state had called on the state Governor to remember them in the scheme of things for empowerment, and to appoint one of them into government. He contended that they came together and worked hard, conducted rallies to sensitize their members in the local government areas to support and work for the governor during the campaigns.
In his response, Rt. Hon. Solomon announced to them that one of them already has an appointment in government, pointing out that it was not possible to give everybody appointment.
“It is difficult to appoint everyone in government. The legitimate request you should make is the one that will make you to benefit from the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)”, the Senior Political Adviser said, adding that political appointment will be of benefit to them.
Urging them to be patience as empowerment is a gradual process, Rt. Hon Solomon said that the government is working hard to get job creation slots for them, even as he noted that there is no group that did not work hard.
He announced that there are no fewer than 136 associations on record, but that giving each of them an appointment is government is not possible. “It is because of the hard work you did that government is carrying you along. Let’s work together as a family. This office is dealing with no fewer than 11 artisans’ group across the state,” the Senior Political Adviser said.
While thanking them for their visit, he urged them to operate in an atmosphere of love with a promise to present their matter to the governor., even as he urged the association to have its ears to the ground about government’s entrepreneurship programmes and to quickly inform his office so that they can be engaged where necessary.
