Members of the public have been urged to give alms to the less privileged in the society to alleviate their plight.
The call was made by the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol, Asaba, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, while delivering his remarks during his visit to Pro Labor Dei Orphanage in Asaba over the weekend.
He said, “I decided to celebrate my 55th birthday by mobilising friends and well-wishers to support the roof renovation project of Pro Labore Dei Orphanage. This was in response to an appeal made by the founder of the orphanage, Reverend Mother Lauretta Elechukwu.”
Ogidi-Gbegbaje who was accompanied on the visit by a delegation of friends, revealed that his desire to respond to the needs of the orphanage was born out of Christian Charity, “I am very happy today that with the help and kind donations from my friends, we are able to restore the dilapidated roof of the orphanage in a timely manner and bring succour to the children who live here,” he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, founder of the orphanage Reverend Mother Lauretta Elechukwu thanked Ogidi-Gbegbaje for his assistance. She expressed excitement appreciation for the renovation.
“On behalf of all of us here, I thank you and your friends for the kindness and generosity you have shown. What you have done for us can be described as divine intervention. We are eternally greatful and may God continue to bless you and your family abundantly in Jesus’ name,” she said.
Also speaking, Sir Nwajei, extol the qualities of Ogidi-Gbegbaje and praised his charitable efforts.
Said he, “My friend is very compassionate and kind. He has a large heart towards charity, which I consider very inspiring. It is for this reason I am supporting his charitable efforts with cash donations,” he declared.
Highlights of the visit was the presentation of gift to Ogidi-Gbegbaje and the rendition of thank you songs and prayers by the children of the orphanage.
