Ika NUJ mourns late veteran journalist Chiejile, pay condolence visit to family

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalist’s (NUJ), Ika Chapel, Dr. Maxwell Momah has described late Dr. Obi Chiejile as one of the greatest contributors to the development of journalism in Delta State.

Momah made the assertion when he led members of Ika chapel to pay condolence visit to the family of the late veteran journalist at his family compound in Boji Boji Owa, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to him, the vacuum his demise has left in the pen profession will be impossible to fill. Most us were taught and mentored him.

“His role in the development of the media profession cannot be overemphasize.

“Dr. Chiejile was a man with a large and accommodating heart. Many journalists from Ika extraction had in one way or the other passed through his tutoring,” he said.

While saying that late Chiejile was a firm believer of morals and values, he said the deceased had equal respect for all.

The Ika Chapel chairman, observed that the deceased was one the journalists that fought for the democracy Nigerians are enjoying today.

“Even after retirement, he was still working hard to fulfil his duty as journalist, having bar lines in Pointer Newspaper and other top newspapers.

“Before his demise, he had several students in his institution. Chief as he is popularly referred to by his students has impacted many of us all. May his soul rest in peace,” he stated

Chief Dr. Obi Joshua Chiejile was a prolific writer, a teacher and mentor. He was before demise a member of NUJ, Ika Chapel and Propiator o Regal institute of journalism Agbor.

He passed on Wednesday April 14th in Agbor after a brief illness. He was a native Ute-Erumu, ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. He is survived by his wonderful wife and five children.
