The Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko, HRM Agbogidi, Solomon Eziokwubundu Nwabuokei Nwoko has promised to put a new lease of life into the Idumuje-Ugboko market, which for many years has lost its prime importance in the area.
Although Idumuje-Ugboko is an agrarian community with a lot of farmers cultivating a wide range of crops like cassava, plantain and yams, their farm produce find their way to the neighouring Igbodo market and after end of business, some of the products find their way back to the Idumuje-Ugboko market to be sold at exorbitant prices.
The Obi believes this practice should stop as he vowed to return the market to its past glory. He further stressed that the period of strife in the village robbed the market of its glory and allowed other communities to prey on its vulnerability.
To this effect, on Friday, 17th March, 2021, the Obi, HRM Solomon Nwabuokei Nwoko led the Iyase, elders and youths of the community to ensure the market is cleared of all debris and substances that make the market unkempt. The Obi said he would make cleanliness a deliberate policy that should be imbibed by all citizens of Idumuje-Ugboko.
Besides the town market, the Obi used the opportunity to remind the town folks present at the market clearing event that there are several natural water springs in the community, some of which have been blocked by fallen trees. He assured that as time goes on, the obstacles to the flowing of the natural springs would be dismantled to enable the springs flow ceaselessly from their sources.
The Obi also revealed that if the obstacles are properly cleared, the springs could be developed into waterfalls capable of attracting tourists from Nigeria and beyond. The existing natural springs are: Iyi Nzia, Iyi Tom tom, Iyi Omelu Ebele, Iyi Enugu and Iyi Ugo which is currently flowing amongst others.
