Against the growing and seemingly intractable menace of the Fulani cattle rearers that has become so much of a problem to the farming communities across Delta state, and insinuations alleging that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim being a Fulani is the reason the cattle rearers are rampaging with impunity without control, the Commissioner has debunked the claims and insinuations.
Ridiculing the insinuation that he is a Fulani as falsehood, the Commissioner at a recent press conference on June 22/6/2017 at which no fewer than 33 suspected criminals were paraded at the Delta state Command said: “I am not a Fulani man; I am a Kanuri man, and by my oath of office I cannot shield any criminal. I am not a Fulani man; a criminal is a criminal, whether Fulani, Kanuri, or whatever. As an officer, I cannot be involved in shielding any criminal.”
Besides, the CP said the state’s police command has been on its toes doing everything possible to ensure that rampant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state become history. “The Command is aware that it is not the sedentary herdsmen and farmers that constitute the problem but the migrating and criminal elements amongst them.
“The Command hereby warns all criminals masquerading as herdsmen to leave the State or face severe consequences for their dastardly acts.
“I also implore all and sundry to avoid jungle justice , be vigilant and report any threat whatsoever in their areas promptly to security agencies. Let me reassure all Deltans that the Command does not, and will not, shield any criminal herdsman from the full weight of the law for any reason,” Mr Zanna Ibrahim warned.
He also announced that the special Anti-Cultism unit created by the Police Command to curtail the menace of cultism and other cult-related crimes is on course, pointing out that as a result a lot of successes have been recorded and that cultism is on steady decline in the State.
“I call on parents, guardians, traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to use their God-given roles and opportunity to teach their children, wards, subjects and followers the dangers of cultism in order to discourage them from joining cult groups for any reason,” Mr. Ibrahim pleaded.
Among suspected criminals paraded at the press briefing included 13 cases involving 22 suspected kidnappers; three armed robbery cases and the suspects; five murder cases and nine suspects arrested for other cases.
The Commissioner of Police also announced that six locally made guns were recovered from the suspects, with five live cartridges recovered, as well as one pump action gun and two ammunitions recovered.
He reassured that the officers and men of the Command have been put on their toes towards ensuring that the state continues to enjoy greater peace and security.
