The ad hoc staff engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have a hard time getting organized in the make shift environments that were provided for them.
For most of them deployed in the Aniocha North Local Government Area axis, especially at Issele-Uku and Onicha-Ugbo, as at 8.30pm when banneronlinenews.com visited their camps, there was no electricity supply, and the ad hoc staff, which were male and female were seen sitting on the bare corridor of the primary schools.
To sleep, they were supplied with mats, and without pillows. A situation that contradicted the statement by the electoral body’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who had earlier declared that mattresses were approved to be provided to the ad hoc staff for their comfort.
At the Adams Primary School, Issele-Uku it was a harrowing experience for the ad hoc staff most of whom said they were hungry, they needed to rest but had no place to rest as the doors to the school’s classrooms provided as hostels for them were under lock and key. They were all found seated on the bare floor of the veranda, looking on helplessly as help seemed not to be in sight.
This same scenario also played out at the Gbonoza Primary School, Onicha-Ugbo, about two kilometers away from Issele-Uku.
In both cases, banneronlinenews.com witnessed some exasperated ad hoc staff resorting to self-help efforts to ease the pain they were passing through. The online newspaper witnessed some of the ad hoc staff making calls to relations and friends and requesting for accommodation assistance from them. Most of them actually felt frustrated being handed mats to sleep on instead of the mattress.
