The Delta State Police Command this morning, Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 made a passionate plea to politicians in the state to exercise decorum and maintain peace during electioneering campaigns in the forth coming local government elections, even as it paraded 23 suspected criminals currently undergoing interrogations for their involvement in various crimes.
Briefing journalists at the State Police command Headquarters on Okpanam Road, Asaba, the commissioner of police, Mr. Zanna M. Ibrahim, flanked by Assistant commissioners of police including Mr. Idris D. Dabban and Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko among others on the successes recorded by the Command in arresting suspected criminals over various crimes across the state pleaded with politicians to ensure that the electioneering for the forth coming council elections is rancor free and devoid of the use of thugs.
The ComPol who admonished the politicians to play the game of politics according to the rules, warned that no politician would be spared if they fall foul of the law.
Giving a breakdown of the suspected criminals arrested he announced that there were 14 kidnap suspects, two armed robbery suspects, five murder suspects and two suspects arrested for other alleged crimes.
Mr. Ibrahim said one of the kidnap cases involved the kidnap of Ruth Edemogbata, a female, 19 years old allegedly kidnapped on 19/07/2017 at about 10.00 hours when the mother returned from the market with her Toyota Rav 4 jeep, and while the victim came to welcome her mother a kidnap syndicate led by Emmanuel Julius aka “Red Boy” stormed the house at Isioghe street, Ozoro and kidnapped her into the rav Jeep and zoomed off to unknown destination.
“Three suspects, Friday Joe, Rukevwe Emekpa and Ognenero Odirome were arrested by an Eagle-net patrol team in connection with the case. The suspects confessed to the crime and have made useful statements that will lead to the arrest of other gang members,” Mr. Ibrahim said, adding: “Subsequently on 11/08/2017 and 13/09/2017, the suspects (Emmanuel Julius, aka Red boy, 27 of No. Ovie stret, Ellu; Goodluck Okpa, male, 22 years of Emevor Village, Akadhe Henry, Male, 21, of Umu-Iyegbu Qtrs, Illah and Johnson Amalaka, male, 34 years, of No. 17, Peter Eche street, Emevor) were arrested at different locations and they all confessed their involvement in the kidnap. Investigation is in progress,” ComPol Ibrahim said.
There is also the case of conspiracy, kidnapping and armed robbery involving Nweke Sunday, male, 27 years of nyere Village in Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi state, but resident in Asaba who allegedly kidnapped Mr. Anthony Buzugbe, a staff of United bank for Africa (UBA) on 01/08/2017 and subsequently released on 03/08/2017 after payment of N1million ransom.
The suspect was arrested on 04/08/2017 by DSS operatives and handed over to the Police command on 25/8/2017 for consolidation of investigation. “Victim’s Range rover car was recovered by SAKCCS operatives and has since been released to him on bond. The suspect confessed his involvement in the kidnap; he is now assisting the investigating team. Effort to trace and arrest the fleeing gang members is on course,” ComPol Ibrahim said.
Also paraded were six suspects alleged to have kidnapped Mrs. Ekpongbolo Preyor, aged 81 years of Kpakiama Town, Bomadi. Said ComPol Ibrahim: “On 17/9/2017, Mrs Ekpongbolo Preyor was kidnapped by unknown gunmen who dressed in camouflage uniform while arming themselves with AK 47 rifle to unknown destination. Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, and have all made useful statements to the police. The victim was rescued unhurt on 1/10/2017. Efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects,” ComPol Ibrahim said.
