The wife of Delta governor and Founder of 05 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa has presented medications to the five Correctional Centres in the state for the use of the inmates.
The centres that benefitted included the Correctional centres at Ogwashi-Uku, Sapele, Warri, Agbor and Kwale.
Making the presentation in her office Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Mrs Okowa recalled that the 95 Initiative during their evangelism sessions to the correctional centres discovered upon critical observation that the inmates were not looking good and healthy and that they needed support in terms of medications.
She then began tinkering with how to help them, and then reached out to the officials of the Drug Revolving Fund in the state, and they graciously offered to help by also reaching out to pharmaceutical companies who also boosted the initiative with generous supplies of pharmaceutical products free of charge.
Items presented included pharmaceutical products, hand sanitizers, and face masks as well as thermometers.
Mrs Okowa also pointed out that over the years that the 05 initiative in obedience tgo the prompting of the Holy Spirit has given provisions and medication to the five Correctional Centres in the state spanning five years since 2015.
She said: “I thank God for the sustenance of this program, year in year out we are able to do our Lord’s bidding according to the scripture in Matthew 25:35-36. In spite of the present situation of COVID 19 pandemic, the annual visit to celebrate my birthday could not hold physically. That did not stop us from reaching the inmates, we made provision for the celebration and we got feedback from the various prisons that it was well celebrated.
“Today, we are presenting medication to the five prisons; ranging from Anti malarial drugs, Antibiotics and so on. It is my prayer that the Lord will breathe on these drugs and bring healing to those who will take them.”
She thanked the manager of the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF), Mrs. Ifeoma Ndobu for being aq vessel in the hands of God, and commended also Comptroller of Correctional Centres in the state, Mr. Friday Ovie and those in charge of the various Correctional Centres; as well as Dr Elliot Ogunbor for making sure that the inmates are medically fit, may the Lord give you all a full reward.
“Being a staff of the correctional Centre is beyond being a professional, this is
your ministry and it is your calling. I enjoin you to do it as unto the Lord; if you put in your best to take care of these inmates entrusted to you, when they come out they will become responsible citizens of the society. I crave your indulgence to create an atmosphere of love among your team, let it be on record that you are actually turning men from the wrong path to doing what is right by this we can Change our World One person at a time,” Mrs Okowa said.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the presentation, the Delta State Controller of correctional Centres, Mr. Friday Ovie on behalf of the Controller General, Mr. Jafaru Ahmed thanked Mrs Okowa for her kindness.
Ovie who noted that health is wealth, said: “Every time she made the supplies, we are pleased. It is this type of initiative that made us not to record any Covid-19 case in the Correctional Centres.”
