Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, has again lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his strategic disposition towards educational development in the state.
Muoboghare gave the commendation at the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, during a familiarisation visit to the institution.
In his remark, Prof. Muoboghare stated that the institution, which, hitherto, had been under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, had been transferred to his ministry.
He added that the transfer of the school from the Ministry of Transport to the Ministry of Higher Education was a move in the right direction, saying that the institution would be offered the same supervision as the universities, colleges of education and other polytechnics in the state.
“Now that the institution has been moved to the Ministry of Higher Education, I can speak authoritatively that the institution and the ministry would work together and every issue bothering the institution would be duly handled. I can assure you that the Delta State School of Marine Technology will start seeing positive results soon, ” he stated.
While congratulating the Rector of the school, Engr. Famous Akpoyibo, the Higher Education Commissioner thanked the Burutu community for providing the facilities the institution was currently using at the temporary site.
He expressed hope that from the temporary site, the institution would relocate to its permanent site, adding that the relocation would kick start before the end of the governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.
Earlier, Akpoyibo pointed out that the school had weathered the storms to reach the position it had attained since its establishment in 2006.
He disclosed that appreciable progress had been recorded in the student’s enrollment, expansion of schools and departments, maintenance of infrastructure and facilities and ensuring discipline of staff and students.
While welcoming the commissioner and his team, the rector appealed for the accreditation of three other courses, provision of official boats for ease of transportation for both staff and students as well as provision utility vehicles.
Highpoint of the event was a ceremonial parade by the students of the school to welcome the Higher Education Commissioner and his team to the institution.
