In a decisive move aimed at recalibrating Nigeria’s security leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved sweeping changes in the hierarchy of the Armed Forces.
According to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Also named in the new lineup are Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, however, retains his position.
Tinubu, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”
He urged the new appointees to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The statement confirmed that all appointments take immediate effect.
The latest shake-up marks one of the most significant military restructurings under President Tinubu, signaling his determination to refresh the nation’s security architecture amid continuing security challenges across the country.
