The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has applauded the bravery and professionalism of two Alpha Jet pilots who successfully ejected after their aircraft developed an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection functional check flight at Air Force Base Kainji on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the incident occurred shortly after take-off when the aircraft experienced a critical malfunction. The pilots, acting “swiftly and with remarkable composure,” steered the jet away from populated areas before carrying out a safe ejection.
Both officers were immediately evacuated for routine medical evaluation and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the aircrew for what he described as exemplary courage, discipline, and sound judgement, noting that their actions averted potential loss of life and property.
Air Marshal Aneke also ordered the immediate setup of a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the incident, reaffirming the service’s commitment to the highest safety and operational standards.
“The NAF remains dedicated to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in line with its constitutional mandate,” the statement added.
