Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has been honoured with the “Best Security Supportive Politician of the Year” award at the maiden edition of the RazorNews Inter-Agency Cooperation Awards.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Shoragate Hotel in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, celebrated political leaders whose interventions have strengthened Nigeria’s security architecture. Elumelu was recognised for his unwavering support for inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, and legislative initiatives aimed at boosting national security.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, presented the award on behalf of the organisers. Elumelu, who could not attend, was represented at the event.
With the theme “Inter-Agency Unity: The Power of Collective Action,” the awards brought together senior figures from Nigeria’s defence, intelligence, policing, emergency response, and private security sectors, alongside key political actors. Organisers said the event seeks to spotlight individuals who work “behind the scenes” to empower security agencies confronting the country’s evolving threats.
Elumelu, who served as Minority Leader between 2019 and 2023, has earned widespread commendation for his strategic engagements with security agencies and his advocacy for better funding, improved welfare, and stronger policy frameworks to combat insurgency, banditry, illegal arms proliferation, cybercrime, and grassroots insecurity.
During his time in the House of Representatives, he championed motions and interventions highlighting violent attacks in rural communities, youth restiveness, cyber-related crimes, and the need for swift government response in high-risk areas.
His constituency work has also frequently incorporated safety initiatives, including support for community-based surveillance systems and local vigilante groups operating under formal security structures.
Over the years, Elumelu has distinguished himself as one of the most consistent political supporters of security agencies within his constituency. His contributions include building residential quarters and a staff clinic for DSS operatives, renovating multiple DSS facilities, rehabilitating police stations, providing operational vehicles, and upgrading the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command office by connecting it to the national grid and installing solar-powered lighting to enhance operational efficiency. He also facilitated the installation of hundreds of solar streetlights to boost night-time visibility and improve patrol efficiency.
Through sustained legislative advocacy and empowerment programmes that reduce vulnerability among young people, Elumelu has strengthened both the operational capacity of security agencies and the overall safety of communities within and beyond his constituency.
RazorNews said the recognition reflects “his unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security agencies and promoting inter-agency harmony at both legislative and grassroots levels,” noting that political leadership remains a crucial but often underappreciated pillar of national security.
Other honourees included the Nigerian Army, which won the award for Outstanding Defence Force of the Year, the Nigeria Customs Service for excellence in illicit arms and drug interception, and several private security organisations acknowledged for operational excellence.
Organisers added that the awards were designed to refocus national attention on the importance of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
Political analysts say the honour further solidifies Elumelu’s reputation as a statesman whose influence extends beyond lawmaking into national cohesion and security advocacy. His emergence as the Best Security Supportive Politician underscores the critical role elected leaders must play in championing policies and partnerships that fortify national stability.
At a time when security remains one of Nigeria’s most urgent concerns, observers say Elumelu’s recognition stands as a model of how political engagement can meaningfully contribute to safer and more resilient communities.
