…as the do-or-die affair earns Information Commissioner, Charles Aniagwu suspension
It is not a secret that there is unwritten law requiring Party leaders including government appointees to deliver their respective wards during elections.
And failure to accomplish that important task might pose a stumbling block in determining future benefits from the government in power, except in rare cases.
As a result, there is ongoing desperate move by these appointees to ensure that elected or ‘appointed’ Executives at both Ward and Local government levels are loyal to them to avoid rocking the boat at the end of the day, when the ballot is counted.
What is their game plan, they ‘bulldoze’ into the Wards engaging in supremacy battle with the Exco officials, dictating how the consensus direction should go in order to favour their whims and caprices.
They assert themselves through bullying and name dropping of the governor as a cover up; whereas it is a blatant lie.
A case in point might likely be what occurred at APC Ward 7 in Ika North-East local government area, Delta State, Nigeria, few days ago.
The fearless Ward Executive members over there took the bull by the horn and suspended the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Development) & Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, over what they described as alleged “anti-party activities”.
The suspension was contained in a letter dated February 11, 2026, and signed by the Ward Chairman, Mr. Chukwuka Ojinji; Vice Chairman, Mr. Ambrose Okafor; and Secretary, Mr. Magboma Confidence.
Specifically, the Party alleged that Aniagwu personally endorsed what it described as an illegal consensus executive list for Ward 7, worked against the interests of the party and its candidates, and undermined party leadership despite the fact that he is not an elected ward executive member.
….. Ughelli North, too
Another case in question was a case reported at Ughelli North local government area of the State.
Watch-Mann News reports that the “All Progressives Congress (APC) Ughelli North chapter in Delta State is currently in political turmoil as the APC Ogor ward Ughelli North local government area raised a serious alarm on what they described as political intimidation by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s appointee, Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe.
“Our Correspondent reliably gathered that Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe, a Governor’s appointee to the Board of Internal Revenue, was accused of sabotaging the efforts of the party leadership at Ogor ward.
“Speaking to our correspondent, a chieftain of APC in Ogor Ward, Chief John Oruma berated Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe for thwarting the efforts of the leadership of APC in Ogor ward calling on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to act fast to call him (Mr. Kelly Oghenekevwe) to order to avert the repeat of the past political catastrophe in the council area.
“According to Oruma”, the report went on, “there was a meeting of APC stakeholders held on Sunday February 8, 2026, at the Ughelli North council secretariat at the instance of the LGA Vice Chairman, Chief (Barr) Fred Majemite to ratify all the lists from each of the eleven (11) wards of Ughelli North but unfortunately, Ogor Ward had an issue with its list.
“Disclosing further, he said, a subcommittee was immediately set up, made up of Prof. S.W. Ibodje, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, and Chief Mrs. Meg Atano, with a view to unraveling the issues that bedevil the ward’s list.
“Chief Oruma clarified further that the 3-man committee led by Prof. S.W.E Ibodje came out with their findings and gave a nod to ratify the list presented by Chief Raphael Emecho on behalf of APC Ogor ward, and it was generally accepted with a unanimous yes vote by all that was present.
“While the elders and leaders of APC in Ogor ward were working hard to zone the positions /offices to deliver Governor Sheriff Oborevwori come 2027 general elections, they woke up with a surprising lackadaisical calls from left, right, and center suggesting Governor Oborevwori has directed that the Ogor list should be reviewed again”, the report further stated.
They are several other cases across the length and breadth of the State except in few places where sleeping dogs were allowed to sleep.
