Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has praised Chairman of Maton Engineering Limited, Mr. Matthew Tonlagha, describing his life at 50 as a powerful testament to service, resilience and gratitude.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Warri to mark the golden jubilee, the governor said the impressive turnout and moving testimonies reflected a life that has positively touched many.
“I know your story. For ten years, you could not walk, yet God sustained you. He will continue to reward your service to humanity,” Oborevwori said, urging others to draw lessons from Tonlagha’s perseverance and generosity.
The governor noted that guests drawn from across Warri and other parts of the country, including prominent personalities and clerics, underscored the celebrant’s wide acceptance and influence. He added that activities lined up in Tonlagha’s honour, including a novelty football match between Bayelsa and Delta States, further highlighted his impact.
Oborevwori used the occasion to restate his administration’s commitment to peace and security in Delta State, stressing that sustained peace remains central to development.

“Peace is our priority. Security agencies, communities and government are all playing their parts by engaging our people and keeping many off the streets,” he said, urging investors to reinvest in the state.
The governor also paid tribute to Tonlagha’s wife for her steadfast support during challenging times, as well as his mother and mother-in-law, praying for God’s blessings upon them.
In a sermon titled “A Worthy Life,” Pastor Emmanuel Kalejaiye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God described thanksgiving as a public demonstration of gratitude, adding that a worthy life is one that reverences God and blesses humanity.
In his remarks, Tonlagha thanked God for the gift of life at 50, acknowledging divine grace for his victory over life challenges, including polio. He praised his mother as his pillar of strength and his wife as a supportive partner, before leading the congregation in seven hallelujahs of thanksgiving.
