Rt. Hon. Oborevwori, Delta Assembly Speaker.

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori today, Wednesday September 6th, 2017 constituted the long awaited Standing Committees of the House with the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere retaining his former position as the Chairman, House Committee on Information.

A total of 28 Committees saw Hon Daniel Mayuku, Warri South West emerging Chairman, House Committee on DESOPADEC, while Hon Alphonsus Ojo, Ukwuani and only Medical Doctor in the House, named the Chairman, House Committee on Health.

Others include, Anthony Elekeokuri, Public Accounts, Eriateke Ibori- Suon, Finance and Appropriations, Evans Ivwurie, Works, Angela Nwaka, Education, Edna Esievo, Housing and Women, Timi Tonye, Public Petition, Kennedy Daubry, Special Duties, Peter Onwusanya, Asaba Development Agency, Daniel Yingi, Environment, Oil and Gas, Monday Igbuya, Art and Culture, Peter Uviejitobor, Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Johnson Erijo, Power and Energy, Efe Ofobruku, Transport and Emeke Nwaobi, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development.

Others as announced by the Speaker include, Micheal Diden, Peace and Security, Azuka Azaka, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Reuben Izeze, Business, Rules and Judicial Matters, Pat Ajudua, Inter Parliamentary, Festus Okoh, Commerce and Industry, Dennis Omovie, Establishment, Ethics and Privileges, Shola Diabo, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Eric Oharisi, Science and Technology, Samuel Mariere, Water Resources, Oboro Preyor, Urban Renewal and Friday Osanebi, Committee on Legislative Compliance.

The Speaker charged the chairmen and members of the committees to be up and doing at ensuring peace, development and good governance of the state.

While congratulating them for their appointments, the Speaker said standing Committees are an integral part of the legislature, particularly in the area of oversight functions and charged the committees not to fail in that regards.

Rt Hon Oborevwori also urged ministries, agencies and parastatals to give the committees the desired cooperation.

Meantime, a bill for a law to establish the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission has passed first reading on the floor of the house.

Also read for the first time at plenary is a bill for a law to amend the Delta State Local Government Law 2013.

The second readings for the two bills have been slated for Tuesday and Wednesday next week respectively.
The house adjourned till Tuesday, 12 September 2017.
