The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Capital Territory Development has hailed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his sweeping transformation of Asaba, declaring that the state capital is fast emerging as one of Nigeria’s most modern and livable cities.
Leading the commendation during an oversight tour of major projects, Committee Chairman Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South II) said the Governor’s aggressive infrastructure push and strategic urban renewal reflect “the MORE Agenda in action” and showcase “governance that works and delivers.”
From newly paved roads to flood control systems and modern markets, the lawmakers said the transformation of Asaba is unmistakable — visible proof, they noted, of the Governor’s “hands-on leadership and clear development vision.”
Obire praised the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Mr. Patrick Ukah, and his management team for what he described as an outstanding 80 percent budget performance, citing it as evidence of transparency and fiscal discipline in the agency’s operations.
“This oversight is part of our duty to ensure that every naira budgeted delivers value,” Obire stated. “Governor Oborevwori’s investment in Asaba is not cosmetic — it’s transformational. The capital is wearing a new look.”
The inspection team visited Chris Abudei Street, Ogbueshi Onochie Street, St. Theresa Catholic Church Road, Okwe Market/Umuapa Quarters Road, Old Oko Road, and ongoing flood control projects at Ogbe-Ilo and Ugbomanta Street, among others.
They also inspected the drainage channel linking Ogbe-Ogonogo Market to Otu-Ogwu Bay, the Ogbeogonigo Modern Market, and the ambitious Asaba International Market being developed by EFAB Properties, designed to accommodate over 600 shops and boost the capital’s commercial vibrancy.
Obire urged residents to protect public infrastructure and stop dumping refuse into drainage systems, warning that such actions could reverse the government’s huge investments in flood control.
Responding, Mr. Patrick Ukah thanked the legislators for their support and reaffirmed DSCTDA’s commitment to Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, promising continued delivery of a “cleaner, safer, and more beautiful capital city.”
“Every milestone we’ve achieved is made possible by the Governor’s vision, funding support, and the trust of Deltans,” Ukah said. “This oversight reinforces our shared commitment to transparency and collaboration.”
A representative of EFAB Properties, Mr. Nyekesi, assured that the Asaba International Market would be completed on schedule, describing it as “a game-changer” for trade and investment in the capital territory.
Other members of the oversight team included Hon. Festus Utuama, Hon. Spencer Owhofa, Hon. Matthew Omonade, and Hon. Bino Obowomano.
According to DSCTDA, the oversight exercise aligns with the state’s drive for accountability, urban renewal, and sustainable development, as Asaba continues its steady march toward becoming a model capital city.
