Oborevwori seeks Assembly’s approval for DIRS board nominees; House confirms Justice Ojugbana-Orishedere as President, Customary Court of Appeal

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Tuesday, forwarded to the Delta State House of Assembly names of nominees for appointment into the Board of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, IRS.

The nominees list was contained in a letter to the House, read at plenary by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

The nominees as read out by the Speaker, has the immediate past Deputy Chief Whip of the Delta State Assembly who represented Uvwie constituency in the House, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata as Chairman with four others as Executive Directors.

They include Mr Frank Nwaugo, Executive Director Operations, Kelly Oghenekevwe, Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Collins Iwebunor, Executive Director, ICT and Corporate Development and Hon Orezi Esievo as Executive Director, Legal Services.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the nomination was sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the former board.

Oborevwori explained the the appointment was in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 5 (2) and Section 6 (1) of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service Law, 2020.

The Governor said he would appreciate early action to be taken to place the names of the nominees before the House for consideration and confirmation to enable him effect the appointments in line with the law.

The Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, directed the nominees to submit thirty five copies of their curriculum vitae to reach the Clerk of the House, before Monday, 17 July 2023 and appear for screening on Tuesday, 18th July 2023.

The House at plenary screened and confirmed the appointment of Hon. Justice Ngozi Catherine Ojugbana- Orishedere as President, Customary Court of Appeal, Delta State.

Motions for the screening and confirmation of Justice Ojugbana- Orishedere were moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Emeka Nwaobi and adopted.

The Speaker congratulated Justice Ojugbana- Orishedere for the appointment and commended members for the painstaking screening exercise.

Justice Ngozi Catherine Ojugbana- Orishedere who was accompanied to the State Assembly by the State Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai and some senior judges in the state, had appeared before the members in the Hallowed Chamber for the screening exercise presided by Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor at the Committee of the Whole.

Her name was forwarded to the House last Tuesday by the Governor for screening and possible confirmation.
