Nigeria’s 4x100m relay golden ladies at Asaba 2018.
Nigeria’s quartet of Blessing Okagbare, Joy Udo-Gabrie, Oluwatobiloba Amusan and Rosemary Chukwuma in the 4x100m relay race gave a superlative account of themselves in the keenly contested race, coasting home to victory with a time of 43:77secs to clinch the gold medal for Nigeria.
Joy Udo-Gabriel who started the race took off impressively, handing the baton to Okagbare, who effectively created the chance in the second leg and handed the baton very well to Oluwatobiloba Amusan and finally to Rosemary Chukwuma who breasted the tape after a hot chance by the highly rated Ivorien.
“ We thank God almighty for our team winning the gold, this is a collective effort, we all put in our best to give Nigeria gold and we are happy we delivered,” Okagbare told journalist shortly after.
The male quartet in the 4x100m event placed second after the much fancied South Africans that clinched the gold medals.
Ese Brume leapt to gold for Nigeria in the long jump event with 6.83m. And in the discuss event for women, Onyekwere Chioma took gold for Nigeria with a 58.09 throw, while her compatriot Okoro Chinwe got silver with her throw of 57.37.
