Okowa chides parents over fallen values in children, berates rising cases of cultism

Parents have again been reminded of the urgent need to inculcate sound moral values in their children as a panacea for the eradication of cultism in the society and by extension Delta State.

Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa spoke on Thursday June 8, in Agbor during the Ika South Town Hall Meeting held at the National Hall.

He said parents must balance family needs with morality by spending quality time to impact enduring moral values on their children, adding that by so doing the high rate of cultism across the country will be reduced to the barest minimum, if not completely eradicated.

Gov Okowa decried a situation where parents avoid their primary responsibility of raising up children in the way of the Lord and pass such vital role to the schools, spiritual leaders, house helps and the Church.

He reminded parents that God mandated them to show their children the right attitudes at their early age in life so that as they grow older, they will not depart from same.

Okowa said: “I am pained over the spate of cultism among our children. Its so bad that it has extended to primary and secondary schools.

“Society is losing grip of core moral values and we must do something fast about it. It is no longer funny because we are at risk as a result of the moral decay and disregard for human lives due to the rising cases of deadly and dangerous cult groups across the country.

“To this end, the Executive Assistant on Orientation in Delta State and his team have been going round the three Senatorial districts; educating our youths about the evils and dangers associated with cultism.

“I am therefore appealing to parents to partner with Delta State Government so as to restore good moral values which has been disregarded and fast diminishing from our society and families.”
