The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, the party’s National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others over alleged anti-party activities and actions considered detrimental to party unity.
The decision was reached on Saturday at the PDP National Convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State, with delegates from 17 states in attendance.
According to the convention, the affected members were unanimously expelled for engaging in conduct “inconsistent with the party’s collective interest,” including multiple litigations that created internal discord.
A motion for their expulsion was moved by PDP chieftain Chief Bode George, who accused the affected members of consistently undermining the party. The motion was promptly seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi then presented the motion to the delegates for adoption, and it was approved without objection.

Prominent party leaders present at the convention included Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum. Others in attendance were Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, former Osun State governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Gombe State governor Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, and several party stalwarts.
Long-Standing Allegations of Anti-Party Conduct
Calls for sanctions against Wike and others date back to the 2023 general elections, where they were accused of working against the party’s presidential candidate. Wike, however, has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
In October 2024, the former Rivers governor insisted he had “no apologies” for his actions during the presidential poll, saying his decisions were based on “equity, fairness, and justice.”
“For the presidential election, I said I would support equity, fairness, and justice. For the other elections, I supported my party, and that is why we won the governorship and National Assembly seats,” Wike said during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television. “People say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ I did not do anti-party.”
Wike, appointed FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had also accused some PDP leaders of violating the party’s constitution. In early 2023, he publicly vowed to “hit back” at those he claimed were guilty of their own anti-party acts.
“They are the ones doing anti-party. I have caught them now,” he said at a PDP campaign rally in Etche, Rivers State.
