The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to challenge the latest judgment of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria at the Supreme Court after the appellate court upheld the suspension of some of its national officers.
In a press statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ememobong Ememobong, the PDP said the ruling delivered on Monday by a panel of the Court of Appeal presided over by Mohammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma affirmed earlier decisions that sustained the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser and other affected officers.
The party explained that the appellate court also upheld earlier judgments delivered by Inyang Ekwo Omotosho and James Omotosho Lifu of the Federal High Court of Nigeria in Abuja.
According to the statement, the court dismissed an appeal challenging interlocutory orders earlier issued by Justice Abdulmalik.
The PDP, however, expressed concern that the operationalisation of the judgment could cause “untold hardship” for its members and affect the internal administration of the party.
“To avert this, while we are consulting with critical organs of our party on the way forward, we have also instructed our lawyers to immediately take legal steps to appeal same to the Supreme Court, being the apex court in the land, to conclusively adjudicate on this matter,” the statement said.
The party expressed optimism that the Supreme Court of Nigeria would expeditiously resolve the dispute in the interest of democracy.
It also called on members nationwide to remain calm and resolute while the legal process continues.
“The battle to rescue our party from the hands of government agents masquerading as opposition leaders must be fought, and we are determined to do so and win,” the statement added.
