PDP slams Wike’s ‘Caretaker Committee’, calls move illegal, absurd, contemptuous

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as the “purported constitution” of a National Caretaker Committee by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies, calling the move an act of desperation steeped in illegality and political absurdity.

In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said Wike and his “friends” attempted to falsely present their private political arrangement as a PDP initiative, despite having been formally expelled from the party with certificates issued to them to that effect.

According to the PDP, even if Wike and his associates were still members, they lack the authority to convene or constitute any national organ of the party. It reaffirmed that all legitimate party structures, including the National Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees, remain intact and are under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

“These organs are led by dignified individuals who cannot be procured or commodified in the manner that has become the signature modus operandi of this group of former members,” the statement read.

The party also revealed that Wike, through two of his allies, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu filed a suit on November 21, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to nullify the PDP national convention and its outcomes. Justice J.O. Abdulmalik reportedly refused their request for an interim injunction and warned all parties against taking any action that might undermine the final decision of the court.

By going ahead to announce what the PDP called a “fictitious National Caretaker Committee,” the party said Wike and his group had acted in contempt of court, potentially jeopardising their own legal standing in the ongoing case.

Describing the development as the latest episode in a “comical spectacle,” the PDP said the group has, since 2023, been engaged in a sustained campaign to undermine the party and weaken Nigeria’s main opposition voice. It accused Wike’s camp of effectively serving the interests of the ruling party by deploying “absurdity as a political weapon.”

The PDP assured its members and the Nigerian public that it remains focused on internal reforms and rebuilding, anchored on transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness.

The statement was signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.
