Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for the priority attention to the Education Sector through upgrade of facilities in public schools aimed at providing conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Ede Oghoro, gave the commendation shortly after monitoring the ongoing 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Delta North Senatorial District of the state.
He stated that the state government’s efforts in raising the standard of education sector in the state was commendable.
Mr. Oghoro, who said that it was the duty of the ministry to go round the state to monitor the conduct of the BECE as well as other examinations in the state , expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination.
While saying that materials for the conduct of the examination were adequate, Mr. Oghoro reiterated the determination of the ministry to continue to build on its achievements and improve on its conduct of every examination.
The Basic and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary advised stakeholders in the education sector, especially teachers, to maximise the state government’s commitment
towards upgrading school facilities to impact positively on the academic wellbeing of the children.
Mr. Oghoro urged students to embrace reading culture and shun anything that could jeopardise their future, just as he maintained that the only part to success in live was through hard work.
Centres monitored by the Permanent Secretary and his team included St. Patrick’s College at Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Unity Secondary School, Capital Territory and the Ubuku-Okiti Mixed Secondary School, Ubuku-Okiti in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state, among others .
