PERSPECTIVE – As the Delta PDP campaign trains step out

By Olomu Onyiye.

Today is the day earmarked for the start of Delta’s LG campaigns and the whole PDP family, expectedly, has stepped out with so much gusto and colourful array.

Anyway, that’s typical or characteristic of the Delta PDP-a knack for reaching out to the electorate in the entrenched recognition that leadership of any kind, must owe its origin from the will and approval of the people.

Deltans would recall that this was actually same manner that the guber campaigns went last year.

There we had Governor Oborevwori, befittingly referred to as the ‘Street Governor’, transversing everywhere in Delta’s nooks and crannies, registering such infectious goodwill with the masses as he drove home his mantra of the M.O.R.E Agenda.

The Governor was deliberate in his mission. He was equally convincing and empathic as he identified with the pulse and pains of Deltans. Little wonder that after the marking of his one year anniversary in office, Deltans across all strata and ethnic backgrounds can all point to a harvest of one or more landmarks or projects executed in their domains.

However, I’m still looking askance at the Delta APC. Where are they currently as the LG Election timetable takes its bearing in the State?

Well, we know their usual mannerisms, inclinations and modus operandi.

When it comes to parrying obvious truths and pandering to manipulative legal engagements, they’re unarguably, masters.

They love legal blitzes especially those they hope, like their past guber candidate, would suddenly and curiously turn electoral tides in their favour, even when that means a truncation or torpedoing of the will of the people.

But then, this is my humble counsel to them.

While they are waiting in anticipation of a judicial ruling that ‘may’ declare DSIEC’s Timetable for th LG Elections unconstitutional, they should go to town with their candidates so as to market them to the electorate.

In all, this is just also a helpful caveat for them:

A Party that’s yet to organize Primaries in many of its State constituencies, is yet to reconcile its feuding and fractious leadership and never ceases to expect some magical and untoward incursion/infiltration of their FG arm in non-APC States, should not cry fowl when the PDP, having painstakingly and convincingly canvassed votes, eventually wins landslide across board.
