Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
By Norbert Chiazor
Peter Nwaoboshi did not win the 2018 PDP senatorial primary. Prince Ned Nwoko won. Nwaoboshi became Senator in 2019 by subterfuge. That he went to senate and lost out in the middle of nowhere is the out-turn of trickery.
Pyrrhic victory is planted on quicksand. The omen of manipulation is Dumpty-humpty. The 17th century humpbacked character who humped to heavy tumble.
Today the rest is history.
In life every man no matter the manacle, has a second chance. Back from prison, out from jail, Nwaoboshi is at liberty to host parties, more so under a favourable party in control of the centre. But good conscience expects him to chill for a change.
But rather than tow the path of gratitude in graceful quietude, he bellowed yesterday like an unwise town crier, trumpeting garrulous gaffes : “ I have returned to take my mandate from Ned Nwoko”, the media quoted Nwaoboshi in the loudest of gratuitous flippancy.
Which mandate?
Some dreams are dainty hallucinations. Hullabaloos of hang over. The senatorial defeat of 2023 would remain a haunting masterstroke. Ned Nwoko won overwhelmingly. Even before the polls, the wish of Nwoko was that he faced Nwaoboshi at the field of ballot. But during the elections, the man was in Ikoyi prison over alleged graft. Nwoko a refined player had no hand in Nwaoboshi’s incarceration.
Why parrot a baseless “mandate” for an election the world know you failed? Even for a matter that is subjudice- prohibited from public discourse.
Popular by far, Ned would ever outrun Nwaoboshi in any political race whether detained in cell or dancing on the streets of Delta North. A man of integrity without bitterness. That explained why the Prince of Idumuje -Ugboko made a widely publicised special appeal for Nwaoboshi, prior to his release. His freedom is Nwoko’s pleasure. His relief, our collective respite as Anioma people.
Let the freed ride home and rest. Senator Ned Nwoko is on seat at Abuja. The man with the original mandate of the people since 2019,has claimed his reward. Anioma people are great. Nwoko is grateful. Nwaoboshi is merely grandstanding.
His- post prison platitudes sounds a pity. Sophistry can never stand the exodus of Anioma solidarity for their preferred Senator, a very good son. Nwoko is poised to promote Anioma to the zenith. Few days at the National Assembly, his charisma has already enveloped the hallowed chambers.
Nwaoboshi in his humourless sarcasm also spoke of his passion for “equity and fairness” in governance, a veiled jibe against former governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. We are not persuaded.Anioma people know their illustrious son. Deltans are at peace with Okowa. The first Anioma governor of Delta, the jinx breaker has since finished his tour of duty. Glory be to God.
Let Nwaoboshi spare us his hysteria. History is on Okowa’s side. Senator Nwoko is here! Anioma is headed for a shine.
