Prof Monye emerges Delta Chairman as PDP constitutes Caretaker Committees for Enugu, Delta Rivers

Professor Sylvester Monye has emerged Caretaker Committee chairman for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Delta State.

This came in the wake the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for the constitution of Caretaker Committees for the party’s Enugu, Delta and Rivers State chapters.

The approval, which was granted on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), is in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended), according to a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.

In Enugu State, the Caretaker Committee is chaired by Barrister Steve Oruruo. Other members are Ugwu Uchenna Godswill, Lilian C. C. Ugwuoke, Anikezie Michael, Cosmas Chinwe Ugwu, Barrister Basil Aguigwo, Chief Cosmas Onyia and Barrister Peter Ajah, with Martin Ugwuamadieze serving as Secretary.

For Delta State, the NWC appointed Professor Sylvester Monye as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee. Members include Ujor Ucheonny, Pharm. Victor Ofobrukueta, Comdr. Johnbull Aghogho Kenairu, Jackson Agbor, Onajega Mike, Chief Ekiyor Charles, Hon. Mrs. Vero Egbuna, Chukwunonso Alex Ndah and Walter Uguoye. Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq., will serve as Secretary.

In Rivers State, the Caretaker Committee is headed by Dr. Nname Robinson Ewor. Other members are Mr. Alalibo Graham Braide, Princess Isioma Stella Braide, Arc. Eldred Owupelelu-Orubo, Austin Ema Wali, Mr. Ada Utong, Mr. Edward Nubari David and Dr. Paul Baribeful Nkor, while Ogbam Ojimah was named Secretary.

The PDP said the Caretaker Committees are charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the party in their respective states in accordance with Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party’s Constitution. The tenure of the committees will not exceed 90 days or will last until new state executives are elected.

The NWC emphasized that in the discharge of their duties, the committees must be guided strictly by the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.

The party congratulated members of the newly constituted committees and urged them to work in the best interest of the PDP.

It is not clear which group of the heavily troubled party this caretaker arrangement is coming from. Is it the Senator Bukola Saraki group, the Nyesom Wike group or the Taminu Turaki group that held its national convention in Ibadan recently?
