Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,Mr.Isaiah Bozimo Esq,has frowned at the rate parents of rape victims flood his office with applications for withdrawal of such cases.
He said the most worrying aspect is the fact that those committing the act are on the increase, wondering how this crime can be nipped in the bud if parents of victims who are suppose to be on the same page with prosecuting authority continue to display this nonchalant attitude towards a grievous crime as rape.
Bozimo who however resolved that the Ministry will continue to pursue such cases to it’s logical conclusion so long there are strong evidence to do so advised victims or their parents to come forward whenever such happens.
The Honourable Attorney General who disclosed this today in his office during a Media Parley with the Indigenous Correspondent Chapel(ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council said the Ministry is more than ever before ready to discharge one of its mandates of prosecuting those who run fouls of the law on behalf of government.
The Commissioner who said he hold the media in a very high esteem because of the critical functions it perform in society , promised a robust partnership with the Chapel to ensure that
all activities of the Ministry are not only publicized but that a more simplified language or expression is used to convey such message to the general public especially those at the grassroots.
On challenges facing the Ministry, he said that can never be problem as according to him the Ministry is created to provide solutions to such when it occurs accros ministries, departments and agencies.
Mr.Bozimo who further disclosed that training and re -training of staff is one of his cardinal objectives to ensure that workers are motivated, said it was also in tandem with the above that the Ministry has scheduled a stakeholders’ engagement on the 12th of May this year essentially for the review of the administration of criminal Justice laws in the State.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Chairman of ICC, Comrade Andrew Emephia said the parley became necessary not only to seek answers to some pertinent and nagging questions but also and more importantly to seek partnership between both organisations.
