The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Center, ASABA has announced a three day solidarity warning strike in support of the Delta State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Speaking with newsmen in ASABA, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Dr. Nwabunor Osifo said they decided to throw their full weight behind their colleagues under the state government employ, adding that injury to one is injury to all especially in this Covid-19 pandemic era.
According to Dr. Osifo, the shortage in the provision of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), non payment of Covid-19 Hazard Inducement Allowances till date and non compliance with the Tax Rebate for doctors in the state health sector were the reasons behind their decision to join in the three day warning strike.
The FMC ARD’s President, lamented that over 1,027 doctors nation wide had tested positive to the Coronavirus in the course of administering treatment to infected persons while 18 of them died.
These casualties, according to Dr. Osifo could have been avoided, if government had met the demands of the NMA in providing the required safety and motivational needs of the doctors.
He appealed to the state government to look into the plight of the doctors working at Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and the Hospital Management Board, HMB.
Dr. Osifo said he was confident that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa being a listening Governor, would address the issues raised within the 72 hours period of warning.
