Residents of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) have been called upon to inculcate the virtue of keeping Asaba and the entire capital territory clean, safe and secure.
Director General of the Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah at a press conference held at the Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat Annex, Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba made the call while unfolding the Agency’s mission to embark on a campaign tagged: “Secure, Clean and Green Delta Capital Territory.”
Noting that the campaign to keep the capital territory safe, clean and secure became necessary because the capital territory is the face of Delta, he said it was therefore important that residents living in the territory be called upon to ensure that they imbibe the culture of ensuring that their activities are geared towards keeping the environment, clean, safe and secure.
He hinted that the Agency has held interactions with stakeholders including the Yoruba and Hausa communities, artisans, shop and business owners and landlords, all of who have shown enthusiasm and accepted the fact that having a safe, clean and secured environment is the business of all.
On infrastructure development, Ukah said the State Government has awarded road contracts to make the city beautiful, pointing out that now that the rains are receding and that the contractors have been ordered to return to site. “All things being equal, we are not going to give room to any contractor to hold us to ransom, Ukah said, pointing out that the capital territory Agency believes that the city will be clean and secured without also compromising on infrastructure development.
On sanitation, he called on residents to ensure that they keep their surroundings clean; warning that 21 days after the awareness campaign a mobile court will be in place to try sanitation offenders.
He called on those who construct illegal structures on the setbacks to remove them. “If you have any illegal structure attached to houses, please we beg that you remove them. We beg that wastes should not be thrown into drainage; don’t litter the front of your houses with wastes, enclose them in nylon bags,” the Director General said.
He announced that the Agency was making arrangements for waste bins to be made available at affordable costs. “We therefore plead with Deltans and other residents to ensure that Asaba is secured. We appeal to all residents to please keep the peace,” Ukah said.
