The appeal was contained in a Press Release titled: RE: PROTEST AGAINST BAD GOVERNANCE SLATED FOR 1ST TO 10TH AUGUST, 2024: DELTA MONARCHS SUE FOR PEACE AND PATIENCE, and was jointly signed by HRM Major Gen. Felix Mujakpero, ret’d, Orhue 1st, Orodje of Okpe and Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers; HRM Pere SP Luke, Kalanama VIII, Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom and First Vice Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers and; Obi (Dr.) Henry Kikachukwu, Obi of Ubulu-Uno and Second Vice Chairman Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The Monarchs, who affirmed the fact that it was the constitutional right of citizens to protests peacefully in their demand for good governance whenever the need arises, however recalled the recent riotous upheavals in Kenya and Zimbabwe amongst others, which has left them with no option than to appeal to the good conscience of Nigerians and especially Deltans to shelve the planned Nationwide Protests.

While observing that the country’s economy was going through very tough and challenging times and hunger, unemployment and insecurity were rife in the land, the Monarchs however appealled passionately for calm to allow both President Bola Tinubu and the various State Governors to fix the country and guarantee a sustainable economic growth.

The Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers then concluded by further enjoining the organizers of the planned Nationwide Protests to endeavour to interface with the leadership of the country for the overall good of the nation.
