Traditional rulers and community leaders in the state have been called upon to help put an end to illegal levy placed on property builders and owners called ‘Deve’
This appeal was made by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu at a press briefing held in Asaba.
Aniagwu stressed that the state government needs the cooperation of the traditional rulers and community leaders to stop the illegal levy placed on property builders and owners by unscrupulous elements.
He asked the traditional rulers and community leaders to advise their subjects who are involved in such acts to stop with immediate effect or face the wrath of the law.
The commissioner recalled that the state government passed into law, a bill stopping the illegal collection of money (deve) from persons building houses or developing property.
He advised property developers not to struggle with touts enforcing illegal development levels because a law against it exist, saying that they should rather report to security agencies for appropriate legal actions.
On the resumption of schools in Delta State, Mr Aniagwu said the state government was consulting with stake holders in the education sector to find out possible solutions so that when schools resume, there would be no rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state.
