Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as presidential candidate having won the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election, just concluded at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The former Lagos State governor, will now fly the APC flag as the party’s presidential candidate at the 2023 general election.
He will be up against such other candidates as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), respectively, in the race to replace President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Tinubu, a major artery in the formation and building of APC, scored 1,271 votes to beat distant second placed Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, who scored 316 votes.
Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was further down the hill, placing third with 235 votes.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, earlier touted to be a consensus candidate, scored a paltry 152 votes. Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, got 47 votes while his counterparts, Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, got 38 votes and Benjamin Ayade of Cross River State, 37.
Completely snubbed by the APC delegates were former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha; former Minister of Science and Technology Development, Ogbonnaya Onu and Pastor Tunde Bakare, who all scored zero vote.
