High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has dissociated himself from a viral social media publication claiming he gave the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to release the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 26, 2025 by his media consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo described the report as “false, mischievous, and the handiwork of enemies determined to discredit him.”
According to the statement, Tompolo “did not author or authorize any such statement” and has “absolutely nothing to do with the issue of Nnamdi Kanu.”
“It is clearly the work of Tompolo’s enemies who are out there to discredit and pull him down because of his strong stance against illegal crude oil activities in the Niger Delta region,” the statement said.
Dr. Bebenimibo noted that despite the smear campaign, the former militant leader remains focused on his patriotic duty to eradicate oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, the company he chairs.
Reassuring the Federal Government of Tompolo’s loyalty, the statement added that the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation “remains committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda” and even reaffirmed his endorsement of the President for a second term.
“Tompolo is with President Tinubu and will continue to support the renewed agenda of his government. The Federal Government and the general public should therefore ignore the said publication,” Bebenimibo stated.
The clarification comes amid a surge of misinformation on social media platforms, where fake statements have recently been attributed to prominent Niger Delta figures.
