Deltans without formal education have been charged to avail themselves to the mass literacy programme of the state government to become literate and educated.
The Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Dr Mrs Caroline Ajuya, gave the advice yesterday at the sensitization/advocacy campaign on adult education, in Warri South Local Government Area.
Dr Ajuya stated that the power of a solid education could not be over emphasized saying education was the bedrock of a nation and its lifelong achievement.
She explained that the adult learning programme was fashioned out for participants to learn at their own convenience, adding that free learning materials would be provided at the various centers of the programme.
Dame Mrs Rose Oghene, a board member of the agency, emphasized the need for participants to not only take advantage but also be committed to the learning process.
The Supervisor in charge of the Adult Education in Warri South Local Government Area, Mrs Ugemuge Pirah, enjoined Deltans to see the programme as an avenue to become literate and intimate others of the opportunity to return to school.
Mrs Pirah mentioned the eight available adult learning centers in Warri South Local Government Area as Igbudu, Morogun, Oghiame Mowoe, Ighogbadu, primary schools as well as Word of Life Bible Church, Ajamimogha and Our Redeemer, Ogunu.
The leader of the Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Edafiadjebre, promised to present the challenges of the agency to the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi.
Highlights of the sensitization/advocacy awareness programme, were a question and answer section and distribution of free learning materials to all participants.
