The Chief Executive/ Managing Director of Casa De Pedro Hotels, Effurun, Delta State, Chief Peter Asagba has criticized the Federal Government over its claim that the sum of N10. 4 trillion was spent for oil subsidy over the past 14 years.

The Okpe chief and one-time Secretary General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) made the criticism in an interaction with our correspondent on the hike in pump price and electric tariff at his residence in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area recently.

He expressed doubt over the claim as he also noted, saying: “That sum of money was enough to build more refineries that would have provided job opportunities to our teeming unemployed youths.”

He noted further that no such encouragement or opportunities were given to persons in private entrepreneurship who he said have provided jobs to Nigerians.

While supporting the removal of oil subsidy, he noted that there was nothing to show for its removal.

Chief Asagba posited that building of more refineries in partnership with private entrepreneurship was the solution to oil crises in Nigeria.

While speaking on the increase on electric tariff, he said that there should be constant power supply and electric metres before talking about increase in tariff as he criticized the practice of estimated billing.

Asagba who is the traditional Prime Minister of Amukpe District in Okpe Kingdom had earlier in the interaction called on the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the deplorable Amukpe-Benin Road with reputable contractor.

While complaining that the present state of the road was a snare to residents and vehicle owners, he said that his efforts of drawing the attention of the federal government to the deplorable roads were abortive.
