The cut throat animosity and feud that has torn the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) apart seems to be getting more profound rather than abetting as the feud has again reared its ugly head in the fielding of candidates in the Warri west bye elections.

While the Ali Modu Sheriff group, which is currently wearing the garb of the authentic PDP group by reason of the recent High Court judgment is recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to field candidate for the election, the impostor group of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi  group has in total disagreement decided to take the anti-party step to field its own candidate that will contest the election on the platform of the Accord Party (AP).

Sources hinted that the Makarfi group is fielding a woman, who it directed to pick the nomination form from the Accord Party, while the Sheriff group is fielding a one time member of the Delta State House of Assembly to fly the PDP flag in the election.

But in all, the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) says it is not disturbed by when either faction of the PDP is doing. A source said: “The PDP is not invincible. In a free and fair election PDP cannot win election in Delta State. The party has always rigged elections. As former members of the party we know this situation very well.

“As the party in power in the state, they have control of INEC, the police and other security agencies,” the APC source said.

He said the coming bye election provides an opportunity to demystify the PDP as the APC will make a clean sweep of the votes and win.

Reminded that PDP chieftains are well known in the area, he retorted, saying: “Why do you people overate the PDP and its chieftains? PDP is not an invincible political party in Delta State. Its chieftains are also not invincible. It is a party whose bigwigs have lost control, as their erstwhile loyalists have seen that they are selfish and self centred. They are tight fisted. But the people have resolved to liberate themselves from their strangle hold for the benefit and progress of all Deltans.”

He said that beside the point that the APC is not divided; the PDP is divided with candidates coming from PDP and Accord Party. It is believed that this partitioning of the PDP will split the votes of the party, while APC will have full value for its unity and cohesiveness. “APC is a united party in Delta State that is answerable to the Jones Erue leadership in the State.
