The All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta state chapter has called on its members to be calm over the turn out of the bye election held last Wednesday in Warri-South constituency II which the party lost to the Accord Party candidate.
The plea came in a statement by the Delta State Acting Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Leonard Obibi, who expressed sadness over the party’s loss, and especially by “ the odd news making the rounds as to the reasons for this loss.”
The statement reads: “”The recent bye-election for Warri-South Constituency 1 has come and gone. Sadly, it is an election we lost, but it is also one that provided some gain; especially if we choose to look at it from a holistic perspective.
The experience has provided us with insight on how we can better prepare and handle our election-related matters in the future.
We are also saddened by inaccuracies and the odd news making the rounds as to the reasons for this loss. There is a frenzy of information from many quarters within and outside our party. We wish to state that none of the above is the position of our party on this matter.
APC Delta meant to secure a win but to the contrary, the result now speaks for itself.
The outcome will be visited in an organized way where we would x-ray what transpired and re-double our effort to take the lessons learnt into many other future elections.
APC Delta also wishes to state emphatically that the financing of this election was done through internally approved sources only, and not the ones being bantered about in the social media.
Names of our party leaders that are been mentioned as having made contributions or not are mere speculations. It is likely not unconnected with the erroneous thinking that this election was run in a traditional manner.
For the avoidance of doubt, we state categorically that the funds that was available for this election was from aggregated sources and not as mentioned. The funds deployed was for logistics and associated issues, and not as stated in social media channels.
We like to use this medium to appeal to our members to refrain from making any further unguarded chats or uncontrolled statements that can be misconstrued by the reading public.
Let us understand that we are exposed to very many challenges, especially as an opposition party in a state that has been governed by PDP for such an extended period of time. We are very determined to break the jinx.
No doubt, all the fervour that has greeted this loss and all the energy dissipated thus far is one to be channelled into more productive use on behalf of the party. The degree to which we all feel this loss is also a positive sign of how anxious we are to being reckoned with in the heart of Delta state politics.
The incessant desire of our party to chart a new horizon of hope for our people remains our binding force.
Let us keep our faith and hope alive as we journey on to create a state of peace and plenty for all Deltans. “ |
